Forbes magazine has named The University of Tulsa one of the country’s best colleges for international students. At No. 19, TU ranked higher on the list than Ivy League institutions such as Harvard and Yale. About one in five current TU students hail from outside the United States.
The accolade distinguishes TU as one of the most culturally diverse campuses in the nation. The 2017 Forbes ranking is based on overall quality, international student population, international student graduation rate and percentage of students who pursue academic fields most popular among international students (science, technology, engineering, math and business).
“For decades, TU has provided a welcoming environment where international students are appreciated and can thrive in academic, professional and extracurricular settings,” said Earl Johnson, vice president for enrollment management and student services. “A diverse, international population enriches the campus culture and is a vital part of the TU experience.”
TU is home to nearly 900 students from 68 countries with countless religions, languages and backgrounds. The university’s International Student Services office recruits around the world and provides critical support once students arrive in Tulsa. TU also is home to the English Institute, which aids students in developing the language skills necessary to a successful college career, and the International Student Success Center, which helps with building language and academic skills and the fostering social and scholarly networks across campus.
The university supports an active chapter of the Association of International Students that works closely with the TU Student Association as well as groups that focus on specific nations. These organizations and many more collaborate throughout the year to create programming that engages the entire campus and often the Tulsa community.
